Sunday post March 15

0

Oh what a mixed week!

In this I would now have been at the Cosmoprof fair in Italy and had (hopefully) successful meetings with both producers and packaging manufacturers - and been full of inspiration!

But instead I sit at home in bed with my cat and blog and it's not a crazy Sunday either;)

The corona virus for small business owners

As a self-employed person, I'm pretty nervous about the consequences of the coronavirus now…

We are just at the end of a low season of the year and long for (need) the spring and summer season now with a lot of bookings and the opportunity to save a buffer for the next low season again.

In other words, we do not have a buffer for any crisis right now and we really can not afford to miss the peak season if this hysteria will continue.

One moment I'm coal because we have not seen so many cancellations yet, the staff are healthy and we are always super careful with the hygiene routines at the salon with hand washing before / after the customers, disinfected tools, own rooms for the customers etc. but we work on just as usual. Our workplace is probably one of the safer places to be, I would say!

Had corona arrived this autumn, we would have had a little buffer to survive on, but now the financial stress is palpable!

It's not only the company I worry about either but also my own personal finances, I kind of have all the savings in funds and shares (which you absolutely do not want to sell now!) And without either salary or access to my savings, it is not for a long time I have food on the table :)

No, but you should not take out the accident in advance, the salon will continue to roll on as usual and the shares will soon go up again - and so it will be! ;)

But it was lucky because then I could work during the trip :) Nothing bad that does not bring anything good with it!

Press breakfast with Jolie Beauty

Some days I do tasks that are boring to take photos and blog about because it basically means that I press the computer at home at the dining table for 10 hours.

But when there are planned things I have to go on, I try to collect them for the same day, it becomes more efficient! One such day I had on Wednesday:

Press breakfast for Joliebeauty.se in Stockholm. I have said no to press events in the last 3 years (due to too much with the salon and other things) but now I thought I would get better at all that again!

You always get so spoiled at just press breakfasts ♥

Jolie Beauty is a retailer of organic brands and has very luxurious products!

I myself sold most organic before but thought it was difficult to sell, many people probably think that organic / natural = worse results? But that does not have to be the case at all!

Top Makeupbylina be there! It's so much fun at press events because you always meet new people though also många “gamla godingar” som kom redan när jag började gå på event för typ 7 (?) år sedan.

Make up at Disruptive Materials

2. Then I hurried to the salon, packed my freelance bag and went to Disruptive Materials where I had a make-up job (photography for their website again)

The girl I made up asked if she could take a picture of me and all the make-up and then she sent it to me :)

“Mentorsmöte” för sminkmärket och inställd mässa

3. Immediately after the make-up job, I was at a meeting regarding Cosmoprof being canceled. I had meetings with producers in Italy, but now it will be email and Skype instead and I got feedback on the material that I will send away.

It goes almost as well this way at a distance, I think. But they have a lot now and some factories are closing down completely, so it can actually sink the whole project .. Hope not!

Have no picture from the meeting though :)

Meeting with SEB

4. Then immediately after that (still on Wednesday) I had a meeting with SEB which took time because I had several cases we had to go through.

Firstly, I started two new limited companies in January (I know, completely crazy) so it was a lot of paperwork to get an account, bank transfer and debit card for both companies.

In addition, I had a financing question about one of the companies that did not seem completely impossible, so I sincerely hope that it goes to lock!

Do you feel so professional when you have sat and signed paper for 1.5 hours?

Press dinner with PIXI

There are few brands that are as close to my heart and heart as Pixi! Love them!

On Thursday, Pixi had a press dinner and showed news. I went there with the best Tove Castor which I have not met in a long time, just such a thing! ♥

I get so HAPPY from Pixi !!

We will actually include their skin care in the range is the plan, but will have to wait and see what happens to the corona crisis just before we make any major orders - in case there is any kind of crisis.

Tove and Miska check out the goodie bag!

I loved being with Miska, want him to come along every time now! ♥

So wonderful evening!

No, now it's almost 20:00 this Sunday and I thought I would have time for a little movie before I go to sleep, so I have to stop chatting here now. I've been tossing around this weekend too (but not with work stuff) so need some downtime in front of Netflix now and just chill down in bed before it's time for a new work week.

Hugs to you all! :)

Make-up freckles step by step (In a natural way)

0

I really got a craze for putting on freckles! So thought to take the opportunity to show how to apply freckles step by step in a natural way! :)

I have not done it for a long time so I am not a professional (than hehe) but I still thought to show in a post how I do because it is very simple :)

before and after natural freckles

Why makeup freckles?

Apart from the fact that it's very nice with freckles, I actually do it myself 99% for another reason - I think the bass makeup looks more natural!

Before, I instead went east with contouring and blush to give the face life despite the covering base, but after Miska drew freckles on me on New Year's Eve, I got hooked!

I actually don't care if they look made up and that everyone I know knows that I do not have freckles, I think it's great anyway! :)

Product selection for Make-up freckles

I use the same eyebrow pencil I have for my eyebrows - the organic pencil Benecos Eyebrow Designer in the shade Brown. But I actually think I should try the shade Gentle Brown instead / also because it is a little warmer in tone. I can sometimes think that Brown gets just as cold as being freckles.

I have tested other products as well, shadows, brow pomades, other types of pencils etc. but this honest pencil in wood is what I think is easiest and fastest!

How do I apply freckles?

There are a thousand different ways to apply freckles, but here comes a step by step on how I do!

makeup freckles with pencil

1. Make-up freckles around the eyes

Many people think that freckles go like a band over the nose and out a little on the cheeks, but dare to put on the skin just under / around the eye as well! :) It will be great!

I think it's nice to spread the freckles more and where I put the most densely is probably not over the nose and cheeks but at the eyes actually. There is no right or wrong for everyone's freckles are different!

brow bone

2. Make-up freckles over the eyebrows

I paint freckles over the eyebrows too, it's easy to forget the forehead and temples.

makeup freckles on the nose

3. Make-up freckles on the nose

On the nose, I think it is most difficult to place the freckles nicely so as not to feel like an Easter bunny. It must not be too spotty! So I just make a few on the very back of the nose and a little more holes about noise on the sides and tip of the nose.

And a little freckles up between the eyebrows! :)

makeup freckles on customers

4. Make-up freckles on cheeks +

Then I put freckles on my cheeks + dab someone extra here and there, I always do someone on the upper lip, at the jawbone and closer to the chin.

makeup freckles step by step

5. Tips! A pencil in your skin tone

This is actually a eyeliner pencil for the waterline in the eye, but I am so lucky that it suits my skin tone very well as well.

Because when I'm done with the freckles, I look at the whole and:

  1. Make some freckles a little bigger
  2. Adds someone cheeky here and there
  3. Now to the bright pen: There are always some freckles that I am not 100 happy with, some get too round, some get too big and some get too dark. Then I draw carefully with the light pen! Then you can either make the shape more uneven, make the freckle smaller or just lighten it up.

I use glo Skin Beauty Precision Eye Pencil (Peach)

For those of you who do not have a similar skin tone as me, you can use concealer on a small brush instead. Or there are real concealer pens as well but no one knows on straight arm that I tested and can recommend :)

powder makeup

6. Bronzer

This step is voluntary but I usually end up sweeping on some sun powder as well. It's just because I myself am so winter pale in the skin now, so I think that the contrast between the freckles and the skin tone becomes softer and more natural if I sweep on just a tiny bit of bronzer.

Other tips!

  • Make some darker and some lighter
  • Make some bigger and some smaller
  • I make the larger ones quite bright but can then dab a little more on only part of the dot, so that it e.g. is a little darker in the middle or on the side.
  • Doing uneven not only means large gaps between certain dots, but makes some very close to each other as well!

2. Jag duttar med pennan snarare än “ritar”.

3. Do not powder the base too much before, it should preferably not be sticky but if it is too dry you have to press harder with the pen to get color because the pen itself is also in the dry direction.

4. I usually start with a fairly sharpened cape and make all the smaller dots, then at the end (or after filling in the eyebrows as well) the cape is a bit blunter and then I make some larger light dots as well.

Self-taught makeup artist or makeup training?

1

I am in many beauty groups on Facebook and the other day there was an interesting discussion in the comments field when a girl asked what people thought about becoming a self-taught makeup artist or makeup training.

There were incredibly mixed opinions, but few answers that helped the girl who asked as most of the respondents had been educated and actually had no experience of being self-taught.

self-taught makeup artist or makeup training

What is a self-taught makeup artist - really?

My opinion is:

1. To call yourself a makeup artist, it is required that you have the knowledge that a makeup artist needs. It is not enough to be able to do a nice make-up on yourself and your best friend, but you need to know different skin types, color theory, techniques, different types of make-up, different products and tools etc. And it is not enough to possess the knowledge but you must be able to perform this on different people as well - regardless of who ends up in the make-up chair and what wishes that particular person has. It is plenty (!) one must know both theoretically and practically.

2. If you have learned all of the above, I think you have an education regardless of whether you are self-taught or if you paid SEK 70,000 to get a teacher, the only difference is from where you have received the information.

3. If anything, I think all makeup artists are self-taught! Of course you need all the information and knowledge, but in the end it is practice, practice, practice that decides whether you become good or not. Experience and burning interest weigh the most!

Benefits of makeup training

With that said, it's not necessarily the case that I advocate becoming a self-taught makeup artist. For me, it suited me well when I started already in high school, so when I took the student I already knew so much that I got a job anyway - then it felt superfluous to spend as much time and money as it takes to go to a proper education. I absolutely did not have that finances!

But there are three really strong benefits to education:

1. Products and materials are included in the price. It's not free to be self-taught either, because you need to buy all the products and tools yourself - and we all know that it's not free.

2. It's faster! Getting direct feedback from a teacher and discussing with other students makes you become good much faster. In addition, it is very time consuming to search for all this information yourself, in an education you get it served on a silver platter.

If you want to work in TV, theater, etc., it is probably smarter with an education. There you learn make-up for different lighting, older people, masking such as latex and fake blood etc. I can not do that :) but I do not need it either as I work with salons, private individuals, product sales and the photography and film jobs I do are common beauty makeup.

Prejudices against self-taught makeup artists

I can not comment on what it is like to go to an education because I have not done so, but I have quite a lot of insight into it anyway because I have had many trainees and colleagues who are educated and been a substitute in a makeup education and saw those students (who were almost fully trained) and what level their knowledge was at.

In other words: I probably have more insight into what it is like to be a trained makeup artist, than what a trained makeup artist has insight into what it is like to be a self-taught makeup artist.

Becoming a self-taught makeup artist is not the easy way out.

To be completely honest, I think that a large part of the prejudices are based on the fact that it catches the eye of people who have completed an education and then people without education appear who compete. Of course it's not fun :)

Benefits of being a self-taught makeup artist

But becoming self-taught is not just disadvantages either. I am very happy that I am self-taught!

What is best?

What is best? To be a self-taught makeup artist or a trained makeup artist?

That said, a makeup artist is a makeup artist (in my opinion) no matter how you get there. It is not the journey that is the point but the goal.

What is better or worse is 100% individually. You have to weigh the pros and cons and look at your own life situation, conditions and personality! Being self-taught is certainly not for everyone, it requires self-discipline and geekiness, but if it works best for you so it's the right way to go.

Market needs

I actually see a need for simpler makeup training on the market. I am really eager to do a well-crafted web training - a makeup training at a distance for future makeup artists!

Why? Because I see a big gap today between 1. really sharp makeup artists who know everything from crazy fashion make-up to masking and special effects. Or 2. semi-interested people who have gotten jobs at various store chains and who regularly sell foundations with the wrong color.

Where is everyone in between? We need talented makeup artists who want to work in a make-up shop, beauty salon, sales, own company, freelance, weddings and other parties! Those who do not spend 70,000 on a makeup education that takes a whole year, but who still need a large part of that knowledge.

Giving product advice to 20 people a day is not easy without knowledge, I can promise you :) Just choosing a suitable face primer requires several follow-up questions about skin type, wishes for results, which products to use over, etc.

Web training on g?

Update: You can find my education at Helena Amiley - Academy of Makeup

If you have your own experiences in the subject, it would be very interesting to take part in! :)

Sunday post March 8

0

Last weekend there was no post due to getting sick with fever and throat infection again (yes they keep on coming) plus var och hälsade på hos min syster i Finland över helgen.

But in addition, I have had two intense and fun work weeks!

A lot now :)

Having a lot of work is a positive problem :) I love to have a lot of balls in the air provided it is mixed with fun balls and not just problem balls haha. And so I have it now, a lot of fun balls!

There are many projects at the same time, website building for a glassworks that Miska and I do together, consulting jobs for Peragenda and then my make-up brand that is progressing! I think I have found the best packaging in the whole world for one of the products and now the cooperation with the producers will start properly. Iiiiih!

In addition, I have a lot with the salon as well. For example. just when I had finished the summer schedule, there were changes of things you can not predict. So now I have had to redo and have stared at various working hours, parental leave days and counted hours here and there.

Such a managerial job that no one sees how much time you actually spend on it :)

Eat lunch and work at the same time, so it has to be sometimes when you have time for everything.

By the way, I had a customer at the salon this week who asked how I manage everything, but I have employees (they take a lot of time but they also save a lot of time hehe) plus no children or other life puzzles that many others have, so I get time over to leisure too :) It's important. If I had skipped my free time completely, I would have had time for even more, but it's not worth it!

Order and order!

Meeting at Disruptive Materials

I have been doing consulting work for Disruptive Materials (around the Upsalite ingredient) for over 2 years now and this week it was time for a meeting there again!

I really love coming to their office :)

Unfortunately, I can not tell you what it is about as it is secrecy. But wanted to mention that I was there at least when it was a big mark on my work week :)

Extra cracks as a photographer

Miska is building a website for a glassworks and we run the same teamwork as when we built Peragenda.se, I take the pictures!

We work mostly with small companies and then it is so very important that the website feels personal, that you get a relationship with the company. And if you are going to do that, it is not smart with purchased images from a random image bank, this is what most websites look like, nothing that catches your attention immediately.

So just like on our own website, all pictures will be from their own business, the models are their own employees and owners who you then meet on site when you get there :) I think!

This will probably be the first image on the website! It is a family business and here are the co-owners who are also father and daughter.

Note I know that I am not a professional photographer, but if you build a new website and hire a real photographer at the same time, it will be a very expensive project. But my pictures are included in the price of the website!

The picture is not quite finished yet either, e.g. she touched my hand and I had such a long shutter speed that my hand became blurred. But I have an idea on how to fix it! I'm not a good photographer but a bastard in photoshop;)

Wow how impressed I was by this guy then! I took a lot of photos when he worked and everything looked so simple, it's like that when you see professionals work!

Damn you Corona !!

In last Sunday's post, I talked about 1. that we booked a fair and meetings with producers at Cosmoprof in Italy in March and 2. that my shares went so well in 2020. Do you think I can be happy about any of this now after the Corona hype ? Answer no :)

The fair was canceled (I had booked everything ready, nothing with refund protection) and I do not even dare go into my share accounts and check, just know that they are in the red now!

Of course, I think it's good to avoid the spread of infection and all that great work that seems to be put in! But is not a bit afraid of corona and is sick tired of the panic that the media spreads. But above all that it affects my business haha.

Ok here I was not very happy due to all the Corona hassle in connection with the fact that I felt that the fever and throat was going on for the 17th time. I have had 21 in total now but 4 of them have been quite messy so I only count 17 :)

New lipsticks !!!

I have already written that we would get new lipsticks, but now they have come home and been published in the webshop as well :)

I had already taken swatch pictures with close-ups on the lips + full pictures on the face, but when I was going to publish, I felt that there was no classic arm picture where you see the lipsticks next to each other, so I took some more pictures!

We now have 15 shades of Paese Argan Oil Lipstick in my webshop and yesterday there was another positive review of satisfied customer, so grateful and happy !! :)

And then cutting the pictures together and writing the post itself is faster said than done. But if you missed it, you can read it here!

Record podcast - Really effective

But last Friday we had a meeting first and then we finally recorded a new episode of the podcast! :)

I have booked a lot next week but I think I should be able to get the episode out tomorrow!

Yesterday (Saturday) we worked with customers at the salon and then I sewed all evening, happened to lock myself in the hen house without a mobile at 23.30 (Miska was not home) and today we have gone on an adventure with another house tour! So there has not been much rest this weekend right away, but I will do it now as soon as I press the publish button :)

So now I'm going to lie down and watch Desperate Housewives and drink tea in bed and just cuddle alone until it's bedtime.

Hugs are! ♥

DIY - Colorful mascara, great on the lower lashes!

0

Do you know my best spring tip? In addition to happy lip colors;) Colorful mascara on only the lower lashes! A DIY mascara, so you can choose which color you want! :)

A colorful make-up does not have to mean that you have a bright color on the entire eyelid, most often I actually think that color is more effektivt när man bara gör det som en “färgklick” någonstans runt ögat :)

How to make your own eye shadow mascara:

DIY - Colorful mascara, great on the lower lashes!

Did you know that it is possible to make mascara from all its eye shadows ?!

It works and it's even easy! I only do it on the lower lashes, however, because it does not give as much volume as you want on the upper lashes.

DIY - Colorful mascara, great on the lower lashes!

You need:

  1. A pigment-rich eye shadow. It works best with shadows that have a little gunpowder in them! Not too bright or bubbly. In this post I use Paese Neo Eyeshadow (687)
  2. A small brush, the easiest is with a flat slant I think. In this post I use Nanshy Angled Detailer Brush.
  3. The most important thing: The liquid Kryolan Cake Liner Sealer!

This liquid is actually meant to make cake eyeliners waterproof. You know a cake eyeliner that you can mix with water and paint with much like a watercolor.

But what I use it for is mostly to attach loose glitter and mix with eye shadows to make liquid eyeliners of any color - or as a mascara in this case.

It lasts super well !!

Here's how:

  1. The bottle has a smooth spout, so I take two drops off Cake Liner Sealer on the back of the hand
  2. Dip the brush into the liquid
  3. Dip in eye shadow. Not too much because you still want the brush to be wet, so that it becomes a cream when you brush it on the lashes later
  4. Brush on the lower lashes
  5. Repeat a few times until you have mascara on all the lower lashes.

There is something about brown along with blue and turquoise that feels so extremely summery!

There is only a little gold shimmer missing in the corner of the eye, so you are ready for the summer of 2020;)

EYES:

  1. Primer with eye primer before, Paese Beauty Record Eye Primer.
Turquoise mascara on the lower lashes, Paese Neo Eyeshadow (687) mixed with the liquid Kryolan Cake Liner Sealer
  2. Light / medium brown eye shadow on the entire eyelid, globe line and under the eye, Paese Kashmir Eyeshadow (609)
